This is similar to the famous discontinued SAR model except the dial utilizes the revolutionary tritium glass vial illumination system. It is rated for 1000 foot submersion. It is a nice sized watch. The movement is a 26 jewel automatic M1 movement that has been adjusted for positions and temperature. The crystal is sapphire – 2.8mm thick x 30.50mm diameter. The case is cut from solid 316L stainless steel and is approximately 41x46mm in diameter. The unidirectional bezel diameter is 41.10mm and case height is 13.85mm. The steel back has full military markings. Screw down crown is deep knurled. The total weight of the watch head is 93.1 grams. Supplied with black Swiss made 20mm military natural rubber strap. An optional matching stainless bracelet with either US Seal or Canada Maple leaf on clasp is available for $269.95 with purchase of watch. In April, 2013, Marathon introduced a new improved dial with 1/5 increments or indices between the minute markers giving the observer even more precise measurement capabilities. Marathon introduced a new type of second hand with a tritium tube affixed to it. Previously, the second hand was seen with distinctive red arrow tip filled with Luminova. This newest version of the GSAR was improved over previous versions: it features the aforementioned natural rubber strap, an ETA 2824-A2 engraved with Marathon Watch Co. and an improved 120 click uni-directional rotating bezel. There are limited number of this sterile version available. The GSAR is considered by many to be the ultimate current issue military watch and a superb dive watch!
